Belle Clochette wants to publish a special Middle School Issue!

Send us your poems, your short stories, your creative nonfiction, and your art! You are welcome to submit artwork that you’ve created in the classroom. However, if you would like extra inspiration, please refer to the prompt flyers in the commons or on the board outside of Ms. Love’s room (TAY 166).

Any submission to Belle Clochette means you will get candy!

If you’re nervous about submitting, you’re welcome to share/submit your drafts to Belles Lettres to receive feedback.

Belles Lettres accepts poetry, short stories, novel excerpts, graphic nonfiction, and personal essays. Be sure to give your piece a title and to tell us what genre it is!

Thank you for submitting your pieces to the print edition of Belles Lettres!

Note: All work submitted to Belles Lettres must be original to the writer or creator. The usage of AI is not permitted.

To celebrate this anniversary, Belles Lettres is seeking submissions for an alumnae issue. This issue will be edited and designed by the current Belles Lettres staff. Not only will this issue give our current Belles Lettres staff more opportunities to strengthen our skills in design, editing, literary and art criticism, and leadership, but, in the spirit of “For Girls, For Life,” we hope that this issue connects our alumnae and current students in order to show how we have continued to imagine and create into adulthood.

For this issue, we want to celebrate how St. Mary’s girls grow into women who continue to find opportunities to make art, write poetry, and tell stories. We want to celebrate how our community celebrates each other. We want to inspire current students by highlighting current works from alumnae. So, send us your art and literature!

Any work done after St. Mary’s graduation will be accepted, whether it is new or old. We will accept all forms of art and writing, including but not limited to fiction, non-fiction, poetry, paintings, drawings, photography, digital art, sculptures, etc. Submissions are accepted through our Belles Lettres Submittable. Submissions close on February 1.

Belle Clochette is the online, behind-the-scenes, companion to Belles Lettres. We want to showcase the creative process of our writers and artists.

We’re seeking short, reflective Craft Essays (250-500 words) about your creative process. For Writers: Tell us how you come up with titles! Teach us about how you revised a poem or a short story! Walk us through how you learned to write a poem (or short story) after studying a published one! For Artists: Walk us through how you choose your medium and why, or tell us what artist or what work inspired a current work in progress, or tell us how you decide on a theme!

We are also looking for Reading Lists of three to five books. Think of these lists like themed recommendations. For example: create a list of three books that remind you of Fall, or five poems that make you want to go to the beach, or three fantasy novels that shaped your childhood! Each recommended read (book/poem/essay) should have a short blurb with a summary and/or why you recommend it. Here’s an example from a previous issue!

For any of these submissions, you are welcome to submit drafts for feedback! Or reach out to us to workshop an idea! Email Meagan Miller or Ms. Love with any questions.
